The Astra-Zeneca COVID -19 vaccine which arrived yesterday was administered to the Governor of Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun and his deputy governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele. The governor received 50,000 doses out of the 100,000 COVID vaccination that arrived in the country last week. This made Ogun state the first state to receive such a consignment.

The vaccine was also administered to two other front line health workers in the fashion of the National vaccine administration.

According to the Governor, ” Taking our doses is, first, service to self then to the people, because we can only silence the virus if we think and act together”.

The dose administered was only the first dose and they are expected to receive a second dose soon. The Governor urged that receiving the vaccine is not an excuse to neglect the preexisting COVID protocols such as the use of face masks and other safety guidelines.

The vaccine is to be administered based on priority as outlined by the National Primary Health Care Development (NPHCDA) on basis of profession, age and other criteria.

The Governor encouraged all concerned to make themselves available to receive the vaccine. He assured that the vaccine is safe and effective.
