On Friday, the 19th of February 2021, the South West Group of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) began its 2-day workshop for members. The workshop held at the Ilaji Hotel and Resort, Akran in Ibadan, Oyo state capital and ended on Saturday, around noon.
Mr Remi Oladoja, the association’s Public Relations Officer, reported that the workshop was set up to uphold the ethics of journalism and to promote professionalism.
According to him, “the association decided to remind its members of our main purpose in the society”. This is due to the misrepresentation, misinterpretation and unethical conduct in the media space today.
Various speakers from different walks of life spanning academia, marketing, legal and media were present and spoke on different topics.
The experience was a rich experience where members got to learn and unwind.
SWEGOP consists of online publishers in Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti and Ogun states. It was founded with the aim to promote professionalism through self – regulation and providing a wider reach. Presently, the association has over 50 publishers as members across the states mentioned.
