Rapper, Nipsey Hussle, Gunned Down Yesterday – Artistes Pay Respects.


Ermias Davidson Ashgedom known professionally as Nipsey Hussle, was an American rapper and songwriter from Los Angeles, California. He emerged from the West Coast hip-hop scene in the mid-2000s. After much delay, his debut album “Victory Lap” was released in February 2018 which was received well and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammy’s against Cardi B, Mac Miller, Pusha T and Travis Scott.

Hussle was shot and killed outside his store, Marathon Clothing, in South Los Angeles on March 31, 2019.

Artists including Drake, Rihanna and J Cole have paid tributeto him.

Drake described him as “a man of respect and a don”, while Rihanna wrote on Twitter: “This doesn’t make any sense! My spirit is shaken by this!”

Two other people were wounded in the shooting outside Marathon Clothing in south Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department have released a statement that they were looking for a black male suspect.

On Instagram, Pusha T called him a “rare breed” adding: “Sad to see you go Nip, I’m only finding peace in knowing you are blessed… I was honoured to share in such an amazing year with you musically.”

Snopp Dogg expressed his deep condolences to his family in a video released on Twitter.

Others such as Trey Songz, Meek Mill, J.Cole, Spitta, Wiz Khalifa and a host of others expressed their grief and extended messages of condolence to the family of Nipsey.

The Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, said Hussle’s death was an “awful tragedy”.
