BREAKING NEWS: Oba Sonariwo, Akarigbo of Remoland is dead‎


The Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba (Dr) Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo, Erinjugbo II, is dead.

PublicFaces Magazine confirmed that the traditional ruler passed on in United Kingdom, where he had gone on annual leave.‎

The President of Sagamu Youth Congress, Comrade Kayode Segun-Okeowo, who confirmed the development, said the Akarigbo‎ joined his ancestors at the weekend.

“Kabiyesi went on his usual annual leave, but stayed back than expected,the news of his death is great shock to us all,” he said.

It was gathered that people and residents of Sagamu have since gathered in front of the majestic palace of the Akarigbo located at Ofin Sagamu to mourn the departure of their great monarch.

The traditional chiefs have also locked the gate of the palace.‎
    ‎According to another Sagamu elder who preferred anonymity, “Kabiyesi is not dead but has only gone to join his ancestors, because in Yoruba land kings don’t die.”


The elder explained further that it is a taboo to utter that a king is dead, saying “Oba kii ku, o ma n waja ni (Kings do not die but only ascend to (their ancestors‎).

The late Kabiyesi celebrated his 25th Coronation anniversary at his palace last year, which attracted many dignitaries, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo‎.
